“Welcome!"
The top hat adorned figure of Morgan le Faye takes a bow for the camera. In front of her is a wooden card table and in her hand is a deck of cards, each with a blue back. Morgan looks straight into the camera, smiling, while her hands set out shuffling the deck rapidly.
“Thank you all for joining me, I promise you won’t be disappointed. Speaking of not being disappointed, how about that Killshot card, am I right? I have to say, I wasn’t expecting a tag team match for my big debut, but that’s okay. If Morgan le Faye is anything, apart from the best magician around, she is flexible. Speaking of flexible…”
Morgan lightly bends the deck of cards in an upward arc. She places her right hand beneath her left, angled, and flutters the curved deck of cards from her left into her right hand at a very quick pace. She switches her hands and repeats the shuffle, this time from a further distance; the cards seem to flow downwards into her waiting hands.
“I’m eager to see what the talent is like in this company, because if a guy like Mr. Sunshine brought me along, clearly my partner, Dennis Driver, is equally as impressive. But I’ll get to him in time. For now, before I dive into our opponents – that, my friends, is called a pun, by the way – I thought I’d perform a little magic trick. But not just any trick .This trick is going to show you a distinct advantage Morgan and Dennis have against Anya and Allyana. Ready? Don’t blink now.”
Morgan holds out her right palm just as a steady stream of cards land on it. All of the cards land face down with the exception of the last card, which is face up. The 9 of Diamonds. Morgan sets the card on the table then fans the deck of cards. One card has a red back now, which Morgan removes and shows the camera. The 9 of hearts. She sets the two cards next to each other.
“Impressed yet? What we have here are two cards. Nine of Diamonds, Nine of Hearts. For the sake of the trick, let’s call the Diamonds ‘Anya’ and the Hearts ‘Allyana’. If this was poker, well, I probably wouldn’t go all in with this pair. If this was Blackjack? A different story. But…let’s say the dealer then shows”
Morgan again shuffles the deck, this time as the deck comes together, one card slides out of the middle of the deck, also face up. The Six of Spades.
“I’d imagine in a game of Blackjack, you’d be feeling confident if the dealer showed just a six. You’re coming in with a pair of nines! That’s eighteen! Oh, but don’t get too cocky quite yet, the dealer is not done. The dealer has another…Ace up her sleeves.”
As Morgan says the word ‘Ace’, she produces an Ace of Spades from her sleeves. A literal application of the term. She sets the Ace next to the Six.
“Suddenly…that pair of nines isn’t looking so dominant. But you’ve still got the upper hand. You’re coming with eighteen against seventeen. And then the dealer grabs another card. Since, after all, the dealer has to hit on a soft seventeen.”
Morgan gives the deck one last shuffle, this time flicking the first card at the bottom of the deck onto the table, face up. The Three of Spades. It joins the Ace and Six.
“And just like that…the dealer has twenty. And twenty beats eighteen. That’s just basic math, and while I’m no mathmagician – puns again – even I can see which is the better hand. Now, Magician’s Code says I can’t tell you how I did this trick, but let me explain my card trick slash Blackjack metaphor.
The eighteen, that’s Anya and Allyana. Together, the two of them make an impressive showing, a great pair if you will. Why are they nines, you ask? Well that’s a metaphor. They’ve both got nine months experience, and while that’s okay…Dennis and I, the dealer in this, are coming at you with a combined TWENTY months experience. I’m the Six. He’s the Ace and Three. Blackjack math. So from a numbers game…this is really ours to lose, wouldn’t you say? But of course…it’s never so simple as that.
How will we win, you ask? Well that, my friends, is best saved for my NEXT trick. You’ll love it. Until then...ZVARRI!”
Morgan slides her hands over the cards. They vanish.
Morgan bows goodbye.
