It had been a fairly quiet week for Will but at least that had bought him plenty of preparation time and he now felt more than ready for what this week had to offer. Will was sat somewhere - nah, it didn't matter where. He just leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees and his chin resting on his hands. He stared out in front of himself as he ignored the camera, although was aware of its presence.
I dunno...
I haven't heard much from Aura - or about Aura. She's a bit - uh - off the radar, I think. I actually kinda like her. I think she's a nice enough woman and an amazing athlete. But does she really capture my attention or the attention of others? She doesn't force you to pay attention the way she believes she would. She's not quite 'breakout star of the year'. Not yet anyway. Sadly, there's not a great deal to say to her or about her. She's a great woman and a great athlete, as I said - that's the basics of it and covers the main points.
So would Aura Williams make a great Empire Champion - or even contender for that title? Not so much.
He shook his head as his gaze finally connected with the camera.
I understand many could say the same thing about me. I mean, what the hell do I do to stand out? Eh. I do enough. I'm still a bigger name than Aura at this point. I am steadily climbing the ranks here in Metro:PRO but outside of this company, I have done more to be remembered than Aura Williams - no offense, of course.
Will shrugged that off.
You see, this business involved a steep learning curve - for anyone. But as the days, weeks and years go by, then you gain valuable experience. That experience is priceless. That experience means you've learned lessons that they can't teach you - you can only learn by doing. 3 months isn't really good enough, Aura. Not enough to defeat a man like me. But at the end of it, you will come out of there with a lesson learned - that she's not ready for a shot at the gold like this - not this soon.
That's more of a realization than a lesson but still, it will hit her that she's got a lot more to learn and she has to gain more experience if she wants to succeed on this level. She's far too inexperienced for a title opportunity. Which is a shame but that's just how it is. She'll get there one day - she's got a bright future. And I certainly do respect her abilities and her heart but at this point, neither are at the level they should be at. She's a future champion but now is not her time - particularly since she's up against a guy like me so she won't be progressing at my expense.
I've been working towards something like this for years. Titles have come and gone out of my grasp pretty damn quickly - but that doesn't mean I've been known as just a fluke champion or an undeserving guy. I like to think I've got more to offer and this week - feel this week is the one that will finally allow the world to recognize me to be real championship material. Sorry I have to use you as an example to prove that point, Aura.
He lightly shrugged his shoulders again as he narrowed his eyes towards the camera.
I can't detract from the skills that Aura is quite obviously adapting as she goes but it's just not enough yet. She's not quite smart enough, fast enough or as technically sound as she should be - but again, that's just part of the learning curve. She'll get there - just not this week. I still believe, however, we'll go ahead and put on the greatest fight of our lives. It will be tough - I'm not at all saying that I have what it takes to defeat Aura with ease - far from it. She will challenge me and she will push me to my limits but her lack of experience in high-pressure situations like this one will not allow her to reach her dreams at this point.
So for one final time this week - do I believe I can defeat Aura Williams and advance in the Empire Championship tournament? Yeah, I do. Aura isn't quite at the right level yet and unfortunately for her, she just can't combat the speed, strength and focus I'm bringing to this battle.
Will nodded to end - and that was it. He'd said and done all he could at this point so now he head to the ring and back it all up. Easy enough, right?
