FEELING LUCKY?
VIA: Posted to Lava's Wordpress blog.
Weston Alexander.
It was a good fight.
And we can do it again anytime you like.
But for now I have to look forward,
Into the eyes of a man who was the first ever IWA World Champion.
William Levon.
A man who distinguished himself in the IWA.
Sort of, anyway.
Because while you WERE the first IWA World Champion,
You were only 2-1 in the IWA when you won that title.
A title you never successfully defended, losing it a week after you won it.
And after you failed in your rematch for it, you disappeared.
You may be asking why I bring any of this up,
You may be wondering what the relevance is.
But I think that it speaks volumes about your heart.
And about how you react in the fact of adversity.
Now, let's get to the elephant in the room.
You're much faster, much more aerial than I am.
Of that fact there is absolutely no dispute.
But my greatest strength is your greatest weakness.
My submission game is world class.
As fast and as agile as you are, Levon,
If you want to beat me,
Then sooner or later you have to get in close enough to hit me.
And that's close enough for me to get a hold of you.
You're good, Levon. Pretty much right across the board.
Above average, to be sure.
But world class at nothing.
So at KillShot #2, you're going to find yourself looking across the ring,
At one of the most elite submission fighters in the world.
Tell me something, William, in that moment, will you be thinking back to IWA LiveWire #2?
Also the second show for a fledgling promotion,
Also a night when you found yourself tapping out?
There's something happening, Metro.
An uprising.
I've got from being a hot prospect in the wrestling world,
To the most talked about new talent in years.
Because of my message.
My affirmation of hard work and positivity.
My acceptance of the mantle of role model.
My never wavering heart and determination.
These things are catching on.
But I realize that you are also loved by the fans.
Everyone loves the perennial underdog.
You've taken a decent skill-set,
A sharp sense of opportunity,
And a whole lot of luck,
And you've translated all of that to something formidable.
Many times in your career you've turned nothing into something.
That mix of opportunism and luck makes you dangerous,
In a way that stats can't really measure.
The thing that is your greatest weapon,
Is something that could never be measures at a combine.
But in looking back over your history,
As I alluded to earlier on,
I think that the biggest hole in your game,
Is also something that doesn't show up on a stat sheet.
I think that, for all your talk, you have doubt.
I think that your heart and confidence can be made to waver.
I think that you can crumble in the face of adversity.
If I'm wrong about that, then it will be up to you to prove it.
Last week you commented that the type of match you were in,
A multi-opponent affair full of chaos,
Was perfect for you and your game.
It would seem obvious now that you were right.
That type of match would be my undoing.
Because I specialize in focusing on my opponent,
so much so that I'm very vulnerable to attacks coming from anywhere else.
It comes from years of being locked in a cage with one opponent,
And never having to worry about having eyes in the back of my head.
But in a one-on-one match like the one we're having,
Well, that's a whole different scenario.
You can run, you can fly,
But sooner or later you'll have to come down and fight.
And in that moment, if you let me get a hold of you,
It will be over.
Weston Alexander has world-class submission defense,
He's one of the very best in the world in that department.
But I still managed to put him into one of my patented chokeholds.
Yes, he escaped it by reaching the ropes.
But like I said, he possessed the skillset to make that escape.
You do not.
We're chasing different titles, we're in different tournaments,
And this week effects neither of our positions in those standings.
Furthermore, we're teammates, both fighting on the same side of this war.
And we have vastly oppositional wrestling styles and skillsets.
But I have the tools to finish this fight once you come down to the ground.
So how bad do you want it, William.
If you've been paying attention, you know my mindset, you know my work ethic.
Will your luck be enough?
