“Changing scenery goes with the territory when it comes to this business. And though it’s an overwhelming experience to take on a new adventure, it’s never easy on what you leave behind. There was so many things I wanted to accomplish in IWA (Internet Wrestling Alliance); plenty of loose ends to tie up and a lot of heads to kick in and eventually crush. I guess being a part of this new organization MetroPRO will help me satisfy some of the emptiness I have in me the IWA has provided. But one can’t be too sure. For there aren’t really any guarantees, aren't they?"
The scene opens in a sidewalk café in Kennewick, WA. It’s business as usual in the establishment as the store is nearly full of the early afternoon time shift getting through their café rituals. One of the people in attendance is a male reporter of a wrestling magazine, who has just finished conducting an interview with one of the wrestlers who happened to be there before leaving. After his duty, he wraps up with equipment and prepares to head back to his office.
Then, she walked through the door…
The reporter immediately recognizes her as Ravyn Nightshade. After a moment of being blown away by her presence, he realizes that he gets another interview to lock onto.
As Ravyn walks toward the counter, the young man behind the counter recognizes her and gives her a smile.
Counterman: Wait a second…Large skinny Mocha Iced to go right?
Ravyn smiles in return.
Ravyn: You got it.
Counterman: On the way.
The counterman leaves the area to fix Ravyn’s favorite coffee drink. Ravyn pulls her IPhone from her purse to check for messages. It doesn’t take long before the reporter got to her.
Reporter: Good Afternoon, Ravyn.
Ravyn turns for a second and immediately realizes it was someone she didn’t want to see right now. She just shakes her head as she looks ahead.
Ravyn: Why even bother making a guess that I knew you’d be here?
Reporter: I happened to be around the neighborhood. Besides, you’re a hard person to find.
Ravyn: I am when I usually deal with people like you in the arena, or at a press conference. In other words….not on my time.
Just then, the counterman comes back.
Counterman: It’ll be about a minute, Ravyn.
He turns to see the reporter and looks concerned.
Counterman: Is there a problem?
Ravyn: Don’t sweat it. He’s harmless. Nothing that I can’t handle.
The counterman nods and heads back to his order.
Reporter: Ravyn, thanks for taking the time for me to talk to you. I…
Ravyn holds up her hand in front of the reporter, prompting him to keep quiet.
Ravyn: Yes, I allowed you to see me. But I never said anything about you talking to me… and you'll have plenty of time to do that…..when I ask for you.
Reporter: But Ravyn. I thought if I….
Ravyn: If you were thinking, you wouldn’t be peddling around here with your camera looking for visuals and soundbytes. Now don’t let me stop you from leaving.
Ravyn waves off the reporter. The reporter wanted to say a few more words with Ravyn, but common sense kicks into his psyche letting him know how bad of an idea it would be to frustrate her further.
Reporter: No problem. Maybe later on.
He takes his cue and leaves the café, allowing Ravyn to have some time for herself as she waits for her drink to arrive. She takes a glance around the café and notices how busy the place is. Suddenly, her eyes stop at the outdoor patio area where she notices someone sitting at the table that she believes definitely recognizes.
Counterman: Ravyn, it will be about a few more minutes.
Ravyn: Ok. Listen darling, I changed my mind. Can you have it brought to me out in the patio?
Counterman: Sure thing.
Ravyn: Thanks.
Ravyn pays for the drink and makes her way toward the outside patio, to satisfy her curiosity.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Outside in the patio area, Miranda Ward is sitting at one of the tables, she is enjoying her iced coffee while taking a look at a letter, being attentive to it and looking quite concerned with its contents.
"Miranda Ward; my best friend coming out of Melbourne. She runs a web design firm with more clientele that can fill an arena. And I'm talking clientele comprising about high-level, Fortune 500 companies and media outlets. Miranda is not supermodel beautiful but she is far more than average when it comes to this woman’s natural beauty. However, she does have the natural supermodel’s height: 5’9 and clearly is making a name for herself...and making a lot of money doing it too, much like me." It's been said that the key element in the blueprint for the success for a person is a strong foundation. And there's is nothing more strong than having good friends. Miranda and I have known each other for 15 years. My parents have been great friends with her parents. They could have sworn that we could have been sisters, given we share the same love for things and points of view. But we do see ourselves as sisters. She's my distraction from the crazy world of wrestling I'm in, but when it comes to wrestling, she is no outsider. Her dad was a well known wrestler in Australia. He's retired now, but still very much in the business. I always wondered why Miranda never chose to follow her father's footsteps. Because if there's one thing I know, she's a tough cookie. But I'm glad that she's been here with me. It’s really too bad I have to leave her.”
Then, a young female waitress walks over to Miranda's table and approaches her.
Waitress: Is everything ok here?
Miranda: Yes, I’m fine thank you.
The waitress flashes a smile and leaves the area heading to another table. As Miranda continues to read on, the ringtone of her IPhone goes off. Miranda puts the paper down and looks over at the screen and immediately snaps on with interest. It’s a ritual of Miranda to not be disturbed during her “me time”, unless it was something of importance. This incoming call certainly ranks as one of those times.
Miranda (to phone): Hello?....
As she allows the party on the other line to speak, Miranda still keeps her concern at what she is hearing.
Miranda: Yes, the messenger gave it to me about an hour ago….Yes, is interesting to say the least…Uh, huh…Don’t get me wrong, I love this. But I feel it’s a bit too soon with me just being settled here and everything…Uh, huh…I’ll be over there in about 2 hours…Yeah…ok…bye, bye.
Miranda stops the call and places her phone on the table. She takes a moment of peace for herself until Ravyn’s voice breaks into Miranda’s train of thought.
Ravyn: Hey you.
Miranda looks up and sees Ravyn standing before her, taking off her glasses and flashes a smile at Miranda and letting out a little giggle. At this point, all of the anger Miranda had a few seconds earlier suddenly disappeared.
Miranda: Hey TC.
Miranda comes up from her chair and walks over to Ravyn. They give each other a kiss on both cheeks and they both sit down.
Miranda: So, you’re all ready to go?
Rayvn: Yeah. Have to do some last minute rounds and some meetings. I’m still trying to accept the fact that it’s over. I kind of liked it over here.
Miranda: I know you two well, girl. You adapt anywhere you go girl. And this league in New York is going to be no different. From what you’ve been telling me, those guys were really itching to get you signed with them.
Ravyn: I know right? But the fucked up thing about it its two people that I don’t have a high opinion about: Mort Goodman & Marty Sunshine. Can you believe that? Those two running an organization? You can definitely see nuclear fallout with this one.
The two ladies laugh in response.
Miranda: Well, whatever the situation, they know good talent when they see it. And just like you were tearing it up here, you’re gonna bring it to the Big Apple.
Just then, the counterman came out into the patio and presented Ravyn with her drink, to which she accepts with a smile.
Ravyn: Thanks, darling.
The counterman nods at the ladies and makes his way back to the café.
Ravyn: Like I said, I am going to miss being around here. But hey, I always wanted to go to New York. And even though I have to deal with these two clowns, this is a pretty good deal for me to just pass up. I’m going to miss having you around, though. There’s no one better to have fun with than you.
Ravyn picks up her drink and takes a sip from it, allowing herself a few seconds to savor the taste.
Ravyn: But I’ll say this though, I will make every effort to come back here on my off days and visit you.
Miranda: You know I love that. But we may have to think of another city to meet.
Ravyn: What do you mean?
Miranda picks up the letter she was reading and holds it up for Ravyn to see.
Miranda: I got an offer to move my business today. A new region with more clientele. Looks like you’re not the only one who’s leaving here.
Ravyn: That’s such great news, Miranda!
Ravyn can see concern in Miranda's face. She's not quite sure why for she is very happy to know that her friend is continuing to make a name for herself in the business she has chosen. She smiles and pats her hand onto Miranda’s, at least trying to comfort Miranda’s feelings for the moment.
Ravyn: I guess this really going to be it for us huh? With us going our separate ways, there’s no telling when we’ll ever meet again.
Miranda: Yeah, I know. But I guess we’ll have plenty of time to talk about it some more. Now….
Miranda slowly looks down for a few seconds and then raises her head back up to Ravyn, only her concern as been completely taken by a smile…a more genuine smile.
Miranda:….and when we get to New York.
Miranda gives Ravyn the letter and Ravyn takes a look at it. Ravyn’s mouth drops as she looks at the contents and then looks at Miranda, who is now laughing.
Ravyn: You bitch! Playing me like this!
Ravyn reaches over and lightly slaps Miranda with the paper, also laughing as well and showing Miranda acknowledgement that she has been played by her best friend. Miranda smiles as both ladies extend their hands and grasp onto each other, giggling to each other.
Miranda: This is going to be so exciting! You and me: two sexy Aussies taking on The Big Apple.
Miranda points to herself and to Ravyn, who in turn raises an eyebrow and lets out a smirk of her own, letting Miranda know how pleased she is to hear that.
Ravyn: Mmmmm, I like that.
Ravyn picks up her drink and raises it high, as if she’s about to make a toast.
Ravyn: To our friendship.
Giving a smirk of agreement, Miranda lifts her drink as well.
Miranda: And a city that has no idea what’s coming their way.
Ravyn and Miranda toast their drinks and take a sip from them. After which, the ladies continue their conversation, laughing and enjoying each other’s company as the camera fades to black.
